Post-modernism

Postmodernism is different from modernism in many ways. Postmodernism is more a creative outlet than modernism. Postmodernism tests color theory. It allows multiple people to view it and understand more than just one specific type of community. Modernism was rigorous from style to the meaning of the work, and modernists were very future-oriented, unlike postmodernism which led down the road where meaning had no end and everyone was a critic. Pop culture was the push into postmodernism from modernism. Allowing the blur between what was considered good art, an example of postmodernism will be their Robert Crumb album cover cheap thrills. It displays illustrations of many small cartoons, just like an old fashion newspaper. This album cover became acceptable because of the use of color and unique cartoon illustration and introduces under category of good design.

Most postmodern artists' attitude towards pop culture was to make it loud and eye-catching for audiences of all types. An example of this eye-catching type of design was John Chamberlain's glossolalia adagio steel sculpture. His design incorporated many colors, metallics, and when viewed in sunlight. It can change its appearance. It comes off as childlike and very playful, and I think that’s what artist were trying to achieve in the postmodern era to become more playful than Stern.
