What is Good Design?

Good design can mean a lot depending on the subject from graphic design to the engineering of a product. Design for me is foremost the functionality of a product. It’s versatility, the ability to adapt to change over time and remain a timeless piece demonstrates great design. The beauty of the design drives the consumer to indulge in the product and keeps them coming back for more. An example is Ikea furniture. Ikea furniture is made for apartment living or anyone who wants to have a beautiful interior on a budget. Their display showcases how much room an individual truly needs to have a well-done design. Ikea’s marketing niche provides for well-built, durable, smaller pieces that have both aesthetic appeal as well as great functionality. They make rooms feel livable even if they might be smaller than a closet. The design of their furniture is complex yet simple in the design so it can adapt to any environment it’s put in. Good design to me is not just for some people, it’s the accessibility for all viewers and owners.
